How to grow from the communication within the complex marketing field? How to learn from every experience to grow as a reliable professional. We talked with our student Adina Florescu, after she has succesfully passed two modules of the Professional Certificate in Marketing. Over the last years, Adina has been in charge with the communication and marketing projects of amb Wine Company and Liliac brand.

What are your favourite campaigns coordinated within the group and why?

My favourite part of the group project was the beginning, when we included the Liliac lodge in the touristic circuit. Even though it was difficult for a young brand to push through and make it on the wine market, I think that together with the small, but enthusiastic and dedicated team from the cellar we succeeded in making a good impression on the visitors and the travel agencies. I dedicated myself to organising wine tastings and promoting them, cooperating with travel agencies and building together a mutual commitment, in order to enhance each customer’s experience with the brand, beyond their expectations.

What about the results? How do you measure the marketing results in your company?

The Liliac winery offers a unique experience and also encourages the customers to talk about their experiences, to share their special moments with friends or to recommend the products.

Every year we measure the satisfaction of our clients, based on the purchase experience, positive or negative feelings after their visit, recommendations, we try to improve the quality of our services and to welcome them every time with a good quality product, respecting our brand engagement. The know-how of our brand is very important for the future of the company.

How did your experience within a big publishing group such as Ringier helped you in your marketing and communication career?

Working in the sales department at Ringier and being in contact with many media agencies everyday, negotiating the terms and conditions with them for the largest clients on the market, I understood the need of an advertising campaign and the effects of a good and sustained marketing campaign. I have watched and learned from the best on how to communicate about a newly launched product or how to sustain your product on the market. I took part in a lot of events and I saw how people react to and interact with the products, understanding that the client’s opinion is very important and client satisfaction is key.

Why have you decided to attend an international certified marketing training course?

I chose to attend an international certified marketing training course because I decided to learn more about what is behind an ad, behind the image, and I started first with the communication part. As I was learning and interacting with a product I saw that all these things are connected and you need to have a strategy and a plan to sustain a brand. Working in advertising was a pleasure and so was the marketing training.

I didn’t have many options in Romania to learn about how a marketing campaign works or how to create a marketing strategy, so I decided to challenge myself and to study within an institution with years of experience and to learn from people who played throughout their careers with different approaches to sustaining a brand. It is a very complex and fast-paced domain and all strategies should be adapted to the costumers needs.

How was this experience different from other trainings or study programs in your career?

Even if I was a long-distance student, aall blueprints, courses and webinars were very well structured and I had access to a lot of information and examples that helped me understand the concepts and new terms better. Usually, I like to practice what I am learning and, in this case, I had to identify my company’s needs and to discover what is good and what is wrong in its marketing department.

If you are a beginner, my advice is to take your time to understand the theory. Also, you need someone to guide you for the final exams, to be sure you are on the right track.

Care sunt provocarile in marketing digital in industria in care lucrezi?

Comunicare?

Why is customer experience such a buzzword in the business world right now and how does it help companies? How can any organization, regardless its size boost profitability and long term sustainable competitive advantage with a sound customer experience program? We talked with Debbie Pearson, lead tutor and Center Manager at Oxford College of Marketing. Debbie will return soon in Romania for an intensive training  weekend at the Marketing Institute in Romania, helping local professionals to be the first to get the knowledge and practical tools to deal with it but also to be among the first international certified practitioners in the field.  Also,  we touched upon how a customer experience accredited training could empower employees to deliver results?

Why is customer experience such a buzzword in the business world right now and how does it help companies?

Forrester describes ‘customer experience’ as ‘how customers perceive experiences with your company.’ So, as marketing leaders, we need to remember we do not own perceptions.  They are in the mind of the customers, indeed any stakeholder. It is our responsibility to create and deliver on our brand promises and performance to deliver the best experiences we can. This should not only drive repeat purchase and loyalty behaviours in our customers, but should yield competitive advantage, and, if applicable, drive shareholder value.  So, customer experience is critical to any organisation’s success or failure.

That’s the theory. It’s a buzzword because it can be difficult to do! There’s some research suggesting that 80% of CEO’s have customer experience as number one on their agenda, but are struggling with implementation. To be successful, there may need to be culture change, which is a massive undertaking in its own right.

Could you give us some examples?

I think Richard Branson is a good example of championing customer experience.  He’s big on hiring employees for attitude and training them in ‘The Virgin Way’.

Apple  promote experiential marketing in their stores.  Customers can ‘play’ with products. Staff are approachable and knowledgable.

The purchase experience is quick and easy. Simple store design with fresh branding, all helps.

Why are companies still struggle with delivering results in customer experience?

Lots of organisations have a wealth of data, but many do not know how to manage it or what to do with it. Key to success is having joined up processes and systems internally to deliver a seamless experience throughout a customer’s journey. Internal marketing and relevant communications, up, down and across any organisation are critical to success. Really, it’s all about people.  Employ the right people, with the right skills and knowledge, most importantly the right attitude! Support them with a market orientated organisational culture and you’ll be on the road to delivering superior customer experience.

How does a CIM certification help professionals deliver more results back in their organizations?

CIM certification can help professionals to deliver results, as research based concepts, theories and evidence underpin the practical elements of delivering customer experience in the real world.  In other words, it’s about application, based on frameworks, to lead to  competitive advantage.

Is it relevant for other areas, such as not for profit, where you're activating as a consultant as well?

Absolutely! The not-for-profit sector is highly competitive.  Donors have a choice of cause - and there are so many brilliant charitable causes. So, by relating to donors with positive customer experience can help build loyalty to any particular not-for-profit organisation. Appropriate and clear communications at the right time, in the right place is important. Again, using data to understand the donors’ wants and needs is a similar process to the commercial sector.

What lessons could you share from your vast experience within large companies  such as Vodafone or BT in the UK? Which challenges do they face, how do they overcome this and what can we learn as marketeers from this dynamic industry?

Sometimes, the larger the company, the harder it is to manage the data across so many departments, in many places with many people. Clear objectives and strategies, clearly communicated to all internal stakeholders are critical to success. The organisational culture has to be ‘right’ to make this happen.

Clear objectives and strategies, clearly communicated to all internal stakeholders are critical to success.

What about your experience with Romania and our students here? Any "memorable" experiences or "moments of truth"" around your trips?

I’ve encountered brilliant customer experience and not so good in Romania! I arrived at my hotel around 2am in the morning, to find my room was still being occupied by the previous guest. Not great, when I’d been travelling for about 8 hours and had to work the next day. Nevertheless, the hotel put me up in an establishment nextdoor. For the rest of my stay, I was upgraded to a suite, complete with complimentary champagne.  The customer relations manager paid a personal visit to apologise and check everything was ok.  She then emailed me when I came home to ask for feedback on my experience. Great! Needless to say, I am going to stay there again.I think the lesson is, it’s about how the whole team at the hotel managed an unfortunate situation to turn it into positive experience.

A visit to a well known tourist attraction was not so great! Chaos in purchasing a ticket. Lack of organisation for guided tours. Took much longer than should have done….. I think it shows a lack of leadership and management.  Certainly, no joined-up thinking and a lack of communication across the employees.

I have found the students in Romania very engaged.  It’s fantastic to see a hunger to learn and a passion for improving customer experience in their organisations.

Don't miss the deadline to enroll  within the only internationally certified  Customer Experience marketing training program and attend the Intensive Weekend with Debbie Pearson in Bucharest!

Doamna profesor,  Cristina Bogdan, o dezbatere de pe agenda celei de a 65-a editii a Festivalului Cannes-Lions: Moartea masculinitatii si impactul asupra creativitatii in comunicare (Death of Masculinity and its Impact on Creative Communications), m-a mobilizat sa va propun sa ne oferiti o rapida (in spiritul timpului), dar atenta "calatorie" prin lumea reprezentarilor asupra masculinului si femininului in comunicare.

Daca sunteti de acord in privinta a doua premise:

  • O auzi suspinand: "Mi-as fi dorit sa fiu barbat!"- sloganul marcii americane de tigari Nebo intr-o campanie din anul 1912 - perioada cand, pe de o parte, fumatul de catre femei nu era agreat social, iar pe de alta, miscarea femeilor pentru drept de vot a prins contur mai puternic;
  • mesajul-reper al feminismului: "We can do it" (reinterpretat social si comercial in anii *80);
  • iluzia tineretii vesnice si sugestia unor standarde fizice absurde;

In plus, ele evolueaza in timp, sub presiunea unor factori sociali, culturali etc.

Fara a detalia campanii, voi mentiona cateva companii si marci: Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Adidas, Nike, GAP, Ben&Jerry*s, Starbucks, Mondelez (ex: marca Oreo), Wrigley (ex.: marca Skittles)", Avon, Kraft, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, KPMG, Microsoft, Unilever (ex.: marca Axe), Lexus, Ford, Toyota, Whirlpool, Tiffany&Co., Disney…

Ati parcurs bibliografia? Sau macar o parte? Ce-ar fi sa notati cateva idei, din fiecare material parcurs, urmand modelul din exemplele de ‘statement’ , structurate pe intrebari care va clarifica si va ghideaza parcursul si dezvoltarea profesionala: What I expected to learn; What I learned; What I’ll do differently; Action and next steps? Nu e nevoie sa folositi notitele acum. In acest moment veti avea oricum creditele aduse de modulul absolvit. Va vor prinde bine de exemplu in anul urmator celui in care ati terminat cursul, cand veti avea nevoie de alte credite pentru a continua programul CPD.

Nu uitati sa salvati orice dovada existenta in sprijinul activitatii derulate.

How is it a marketing professional training different from other marketing courses and how does a CIM international ceritification  help? Why should employers fund training with Oxford College of Marketing and Institutul de Marketing? And why does every employee need to be a marketeer? Georgiana Draghici began her marketing career from a communications and public relations background. Eager to improve her strategic skills and produce improved results, she undertook practical, skills-orientated training that allowed her to excel beyond her academic background to the next level of professional development. She shares her experience of studying the Strategic Marketing module – an Award from the CIM Diploma in Professional Marketing – and how her dedication to training has helped to support the business goals in her company.

Why did you chose to study the CIM Award in Strategic Marketing?

I have always been interested in learning; constantly curious for new experiences or training that can help me to see things from a wider perspective. During my working experience, I learnt a lot of new things deeply rooted in the business field and within business practice, but as a Marketing Coordinator I also felt the need to improve my approach to marketing with more strategic thinking, and apply this effectively throughout my day to day work. After eight years, you need to innovate and start seeing the products, brands, and groups of customers you work for in a new way and with a fresh perspective in order to continue making a difference. And we need to make a difference in our highly competitive segment of business.

I started searching for types of certificates and training programs that suited my needs and I stopped when I came across the CIM Award in Strategic Marketing. The decision was simple: the Strategic Marketing module seemed to cover my needs not only theoretically, but also practically. As well as the very comprehensive reading suggestions that broaden your understanding of marketing concepts, I was able to use the company I work for as an example in the practical exam, putting myself in a real life situation. That meant that it helped me apply all the strategic concepts to the given scenario by basing my answer on problems we were indeed experiencing and dealing with within our company regularly.

Above all this, the certification is internationally-recognised, which makes it a valuable asset. The decision was simple and also my employer was happy to support me since the certification has very good references. So I embarked on this fascinating and demanding journey – only later I have realised how much dedication was needed and how rewarding it is to test your abilities.

What did you like most about the training?

This training is very well-rounded; it does not just offer milestones on your marketing knowledge, but also tests your professional skills, organises your mindset, and influences you to see your practice from a strategic viewpoint.  This is what I enjoyed the most. The wide selection of study materials available cover all of your learning needs, no matter the type of business you are in. Everything is within easy reach thanks to the Oxcom Learning platform which also helps to monitor and organise your progress so that as student you can just  focus on your learning.

Completing this module was very rewarding as the course enhanced my approach and understanding of everyday challenges at work.

How is it different from other marketing or communications programs that you've attended? How has it helped to cope with the challenges in your own organisation? How was the balance between theory and its application?

I am mostly a visual person and for me, the technology or learning methodology is very important in order to expand my knowledge. It really made a difference that the course uses modern tools like videos and podcasts together with written materials, so that it make it easier for you to learn even if you are a visual or auditory learner. The information is easily-accessible for every type of learner, and I think this make the course very reliable.

Completing this module was very rewarding as the course enhanced my approach and understanding of everyday challenges at work. It encouraged me to appreciate the connection between the people working behind a brand or product and the customer needs, and also the value of internal communications and how they allow all departments and team members to understand the reality of these customer needs. It was clear that this is how an organisation can become innovative and create successful marketing campaigns and strategies. As marketeers, we need to see the needs of customers and develop a relationship by responding to these needs. I am actually applying many of the ideas I used within my written paper within my job role, and having the theoretical map behind them gives me confidence that they should produce the right results.

What can you share regarding the written examination with those that plan to start the Strategic Marketing module?

For those that plan to start the Strategic Marketing module my recommendations go mainly towards time management. The written examination is a challenge that tests your organisation, the way that you structure information, and your ability to clearly communicate your ideas. You need to explain yourself clearly and point out the milestones of your strategy – the strategic ideas and objectives behind it – and also demonstrate the impact of your strategy on your chosen business from a financial point of view. In short, you need to see the big picture from above and be able to present it. It may seem scary being asked to reference theory, I was too, but after the exam I realised that if you understood the concepts and applied them logically, that is what really matters.

Digital is a main pillar of marketing.it  will continue to be important because it delivers value both for customers and company.

What are the marketing challenges in your field? Product management, marketing communications, digital, other challenges? Could you give us more details?

In my area of business some might say that digital can be a big challenge, but my answer is: if you find the appropriate approach and the right message that fulfills the customer’s needs, digital can or will become the core and most important type of communication a company has with customers in terms of B2C communication. This is my reality now. Digital is a main pillar of marketing, well-integrated at the strategic level of various target groups in my approach, and it  will continue to be important because it delivers value both for customers and company.

What are the key initiatives that you have managed in digital marketing over the last years? What are the key good practices that you recommend from your experience or from the companies that you admire worldwide?

Over the last years the key initiatives I have embraced link mostly to creatively integrating digital into  our strategic goals and also widening our consideration of our audiences to not just look at primary customers but also secondary groups, as these individuals can be just as influential to the marketing of a product. The most recent example is the emotional awareness campaign we launched at the beginning of the year, aimed to target the end-user of apartments – a secondary target, but by no means less important.

I mostly admire brands that make an art out of their  long-term relationships and continuously invest in building them.

Moving forward, the key good practices that I recommend are building loyalty and long-term relationships with customers. This is also an area where I have applied my learning from the training.

Offering value at every point of brand-customer interaction is what makes brands unique and earn the loyalty of customers. That is why every employee needs to be a marketeer when interacting with customers and contribute to a valuable customer experience.

The key good practices that I recommend are building loyalty and long-term relationships with customers.

I mostly admire brands that make an art out of their  long-term relationships and continuously invest in building them. This is what supports brands and organisations to move far beyond the transactional level of their business; towards loyalty and creative customer experience.

For example, the campaign of Sephora – Beauty Insider and VIB Lounge - is a proof of strong alignment between the brand, its products, and the customers. The creativity comes from shifting from material rewards to experiential rewards. Offering personalised recommendations provides an exclusive experience by demonstrating an understanding of each customer’s purchase habits and preferred products. This  makes the experience more enjoyable for customers and certainly wins their loyalty, making the programme both a lifestyle aid and loyalty solution.

Nowadays, audiences are not only after products or services; they stay close to brands that offer  added value, personalised offers, and benefits that create reliable brand-customer relationships.

Another example is the Starbucks Rewards programme that creates a unique user experience based on different personalities and ways of life, making things easier for all customers by offering a range of options. The brand is an  experience.

The theory says that successful customer loyalty programs have high revenue yields for brands. That’s because:

  • It is 6 times more expensive to win a new customer than retain an existing one
  • 5% increase in customer retention can lead to a 25-100% increase in profit for your company.

In  prezent  se perfectioneaza in cadrul unui Executive MBA oferit de Oxford University, Säid Business School.”

Bergenbier in 2012 venea dupa multe schimbari de directie si asta se vedea in acel moment in sanatatea marcii.

Nimeni nu ne dadea prea multe sanse in 2004, doar ca am crezut in sansa noastra.

The number digital marketing tools, experts and trainings is on the rise. So does the number of challenges. How could we cope with them in a fast changing environment? We’ve talked with Georgina Park, tutor at Oxford College of Marketing and trainer at Institutul de Marketing  about the key digital marketing challenges and gaps and how to close them. Like all  tutors and trainers working with Institutul de Marketing, Georgina has the vital and required blend of hands on professional experience as well as teaching and tuition skills. She is herself a successful Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) graduate and has been working within companies such as EY, Experian or Nettle Stead Associates. She is a knowledgeable B2B as well as B2C data centric marketer with a genuine passion for marketing leveraged by more than nine years digital marketing experience and four years management experience.

Think of marketing like a game of chess; you’ve got to be second guessing (with data) what your customer’s going to do

What are some key digital marketing areas that many organizations still ignore or don't fully exploit?

The biggest gap in digital marketing in my opinion  is the ability to integrate all the channels (both online of offline). When you're using multiple channels to get  your message through, it’s far more effective (both for your customer and your budget) to ensure that everything  it’s fully integrated. And that you’re using each channel to convey a specific message, at a specific time. So, understanding your customer journey is critical..

Think of marketing like a game of chess; you’ve got to be second guessing (with data) what your customer’s going to do. What move (channel) will they use next, and how are you ensuring the journey/messaging makes sense?

What are your favorite top three companies in terms of digital strategy and why?

The obvious one for me is John Lewis. They display joined up thinking and a very clear understanding of their customer and positioning. And they’re willing to test new channels which is key to their success.

Hubspot, is my chosen B2B example. Again, they really understand their customer, and have a very joined up approach to both acquisition and retention. They have taken the 7P’s (product, place, price, promotion, process, physical evidence and people) and ensured the customer needs and wants are pivotal at every stage.

And finally, Amazon. A fascinating brand that has achieved global dominance. They have a really clear and focused strategy and mission. This is absolutely key when using data to influence every aspect of their customer journey and experience.

You’re yourself a CIM graduate and you’ve started with the most advanced and challenging program: Chartered Postgraduate. Why have you decided to do one more CIM training program in digital?

It's so important to keep on  learning and developing yourself. The world of marketing is developing so rapidly, and we spend so much time learning about new technologies, it’s very useful to remind ourselves of the models and tools that should underpin our thinking.

CIM is more relevant today than my marketing degree!

I find the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) courses great for embedding learning. A  two days digital marketing course is great, however combining that that with an assignment, helps us embed the knowledge we're acquiring and practicing with more tools and frameworks that give structure and depth and enables us to apply them in the context of the organizations we’re working with.

Personally, I’ve found that my CIM studying has aided my career development. CIM is becoming more and more recognised with employers, and I believe is more relevant today than my marketing degree!

What would be the number one advice for the CIM students that aim to get a digital certification?

They’re hard work, but that’s why they’re so valuable to your career. Make sure you do the background reading, it really helps solidify what you’re learning and helps develop the concepts in your assignment.

And if you can, come to the classes in person. You’ll get so much out of them in terms of participation and real life examples.

How should they improve their digital audits?

Digital audits are the basis of the paper, so I’d suggest really delving into what works and what doesn’t work within your organisation. You don’t need to show this to your boss, so be really honest. This will give you lots to work on and embed within your recommendations throughout the paper.

Don't miss the chance to be among the few marketers that will attend an intensive weekend with Georgina Park within the only international accredited training in digital strategy.

Stabilesc impreuna cu clientul ce automatizari are nevoie si le implementam.

Din punctual meu de vedere, cele mai benefice automatizari sunt cele care pun in prim plan utilizatorul/clientul si ii ofera continut util si foarte personalizat, in site, in email sau prin orice metoda.

In general, apreciez foarte mult creativitatea si abordarile mai adaptate vremurilor.
